EGGy
the WEATHER APP

The mission: redesign the weather app’s UI inspired by a designer I look up to in 3 weeks. I chose Susan Kare. I learned that the main goal for her designs is to be friendly and fun. Her artistic style is mainly pixel art and simple icons meant to be understood quickly and easily by everyone.

If the goal is for something to be friendly and fun, one solution for that could be a friendly face of someone you can play with.

So I created Eggy: A friendly, smiling egg, neutral for everyone to be able to connect to.

The base of the weather app remains: You can check the weather either in your location or a different city of your choosing - but now the city is illustrated in pixel art with Eggy standing in it, telling you the weather forecast, and also wearing the suitable clothing for the climate, to further help you decide what to wear yourself.

In return for Eggy’s kind help, you take care of Eggy, tell them to sleep, poop or eat, much like the classic Tamagochi!

If I had more time

I would add a leveling system to encourage users to take care of eggy along with customization options and unlocking more capabilities of hanging out with Eggy.

You could gain level experience by visiting the app every day, taking care of Eggy and keeping them happy, visiting as many cities as possible.

I would also add social features for Eggy to meet up with your friends’ eggys.
